The Australia National Rugby Union team first competed in 1899. Since, they have experienced decades of ups and downs, but have always been fierce competition to their opponents. In 2003, when the rugby world rankings were first established, Australia was 4th. Since, the squad has ranked as high as 2nd and no lower than 7th. Australia has participated in all 9 world Cups, making it to the finals 4 times and winning twice (1991 and 1999). The Wallabies also compete in the Rugby Championship (formerly the Tri Nations) against rivals Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa, which they have won 4 times (2000, 2001, 2011, 2015). This extraordinary team has also had over a dozen players inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame.
